The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team dropped a 7-4 decision to the Guelph Gryphons in the first round of the CUFLA playoffs on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 2) at Varsity Stadium.
The Gryphons opened the scoring in the first minute of the game but Darren Elliott fed Jason Barnable a nice pass and Barnable got the Blues on the board midway through the first quarter. The two teams were deadlocked at 1-1 after 15 minutes.
Guelph took the lead with three unanswered goals in the second frame. Elliott scored with 1:24 to go in the first half as the Blues trailed 4-2 at the midway point of the game.
Barnable scored his second of the game for what would stand as the lone goal in the third quarter. Toronto was down 4-3 heading into the final frame.
Blues veteran AJ Masson evened the score at 4-4 with an unassisted marker with 9:52 to go in the game, but it was all Guelph from there as they scored three, including two on an empty net in the dying minutes, to seal the win.
