FINAL FOUR BOUND! BLUES DOWN RAMS IN QUARTER-FINAL ACTION

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team advanced to their first OUA Final Four since 2016 with a 3-1 upset quarter-final victory over the No. 5 nationally-ranked Ryerson Rams on Sunday, October 27 at Downsview Park.

The win marks Toronto's first over Ryerson in their last eight meetings, dating back to the 2016 OUA bronze-medal match where the Blues came out on top, 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED: First-year midfielder Artem Tesker opened the scoring in the 27th minute, burying an Atchu Sivananthan rebound. Team captain Nikola Stakic doubled up the Blues lead just before the half off a counterattack and Toronto was up 2-0 at the half.

Third-year midfielder Nicola Russo padded Toronto's lead in the 53rd minute. Ryerson spoiled the clean sheet as Abdallah El-Chanti scored off a penalty kick in the 70th minute.

Stefan Dusciuc was stellar in net for the Blues. The veteran goalkeeper made two highlight-reel saves in the first half to keep his team in the lead.

UP NEXT: The Blues won't have far to go as the West division's top seed York Lions will play host to the OUA Final Four next weekend. The Blues will face the Lions in semifinal action on Friday. Time TBD.
