The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team were narrowly defeated 1-0 by the No. 1 ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, October 19 in Ottawa.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Ottawa took an early lead in the 8
th minute, as Mikayla Morton picked up a loose ball from a Gee-Gee corner to score the first and only goal of the game.
Jenny Wolever had Toronto's best chance of the first half, with her free-kick from the top of the penalty area going just wide of the post.
The Blues had more of the ball and created more chances in the second half to put pressure on the Gee-Gees. Wolever forced a good save from Ottawa goalkeeper Margot Shore five minutes into the second half, while Erin Kelly also came close to equalizing, after being put through on goal by Miranda Badovinac.
Despite Toronto's chances, Ottawa held out for the victory, with the lone goal proving the winner for the reigning OUA and U SPORTS Champions.
