BOX SCORE
The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team defeated the Ryerson Rams 2-1 on Friday night (Oct 11) at Varsity Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED: In the first period, the Blues and Rams were trading power play opportunities. Toronto was the only team able to take advantage with a goal from second-year forward Taylor Trussler. The Blues would head to the dressing room with a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Both teams were playing strong defensive games in the second period. No shots could get past either goaltender until Rams fourth-year forward Lauren Nicholson tied the game up with 2:14 left in the second period.
The Varsity Blues came out in the third period hungry for a go-ahead goal. Just under five minutes into the frame, Trussler buried her second of the night, giving Toronto back the lead and solidifying their victory.
Third-year goalie Madeline Albert made 25 saves in the win.
UP NEXT: The Blues close up their preseason tomorrow (Oct 12) when York visits Varsity Arena for a 3:30 p.m., battle.
