The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team dropped a 34-14 decision to the York Lions in the 50th annual Red & Blue Bowl on Friday night (Oct. 11) at Alumni Field.
FROM HEAD COACH GREG MARSHALL: "We just got out played and out coached. They were better than us in all areas tonight. That was a bad effort on our part. We've done a pretty good job to this point in time. Now we'll see how we respond next week against a good Guelph team and hopefully we can finish off the season on a positive note and not have a sour taste in our mouth all off season."
TORONTO STATS: Fourth-year quarterback Clay Squeira went 16-for-38 for 151 yards and one touchdown. Nolan Lovegrove led the Blues with seven receptions for 51 yards and one major, while fellow third-year receiver Will Corby had four catches for 53 yards on the night. Second-year running back Adam Williams racked up seven carries for 53 yards.
Fifth-year defensive back Richard Gillespie led all players with 5.5 tackles, while veteran defensive lineman Malcolm Campbell had 4.5 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Fifth-year linebacker Matt Renaud added four tackles and one interception for a 30-yard gain in the loss.
UP NEXT: The Blues will close out their 2019 season next Saturday, October 19 when they host the Guelph Gryphons at Varsity Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
