The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team dropped their first game of 2019, 84-69, to the No. 3 Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 5).
TORONTO STATS: Fourth-year forward Charlotte Collyer registered a team-high 16 points, while second-year guard Samantha Robertson was not far behind, putting up 15 points and a team-high three assists.
Third-year guard Ariana Sider chipped in with eight points and six rebounds on the afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Gee-Gees got off to the fast start, but the Blues ended the quarter on a 10-5 run to only trail 22-18 after the opening 10 minutes. In the second quarter, the No. 3 team in the nation came out strong, going on an 11-4 streak to lead 35-24 early on. Toronto was down 48-36 at halftime.
Ottawa continued the momentum out of the break. They outscored Toronto 19-14 to go up 67-50 after three quarters. The Blues made a late push, but were unable to get any closer.
UP NEXT: U of T is back in action tomorrow afternoon (Jan. 6) when they host the second team from the nation's capital in the No. 7 Carleton Ravens. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., at Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport.
