The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team heads down the highway to take on the Windsor Lancers this Saturday, September 29 at 1 p.m.
Â
Both Toronto and Windsor are looking for their first win of the season. The Varsity Blues hold a 22-22-0 (W-L-T) all-time record versus Windsor, dating back to their first matchup in 1973.
Third-year Blues quarterback Clay Sequeira has averaged 218 passing and 49.0 rushing yards per game in his four starts this season. He went 12-for-24 for 173 passing yards and one touchdown this past weekend in a highly competitive game versus the No. 6 Carleton Ravens.
Â
Sophomore receivers Daniel Diodati, Will Corby, and Nolan Lovegrove are coming off top performances last Saturday. Diodati made six catches for 25 yards, while rushing once for five yards and one touchdown and made five punt returns for 128 yards, including a 99-yard return for a touchdown. His play earned him OUA special teams player of the week honours. Meanwhile, Corby made four receptions for 95 yards, while Lovegrove hauled in three for 47 yards and his first career touchdown.
Defensively, veterans Damoy Robinson and Malcolm Campbell have been turning heads. Robinson, a fourth-year defensive back, led all players with eight tackles in last week's tilt against Carleton, bringing his total to 23 on the season. Defensive lineman Malcolm Campbell leads the team with 25 tackles and three sacks.
Toronto's defence will be tested as the Lancers boast the OUA's leader in passing yards per game in quarterback Sam Girard, averaging 337.7.
