The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team defeated the Ryerson Rams 3-1 in pre-season action on Thursday night (Sept. 13) at Mattamy Athletic Centre.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED: After a scoreless first period, the Blues scored three goals within eight minutes to end the second frame. Third-year forward Breanna Berndsen opened the scoring midway through the period, and veteran Lauren Straatman scored less than four minutes later to put the Blues up by two. Sophomore standout Louie Bieman then scored at the 17:48 mark of the second period to give the Blues a cushion after 40 minutes.
The Rams added a single tally off the stick of Kryshanda Green midway through the third, but that was all they could muster.
Second-year netminder Madeline Albert posted 16 saves in the victory.
Â
NEXT UP: The Blues continued their pre-season schedule tomorrow night (Sept. 14) as they travel to take on the York Lions. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
