MEN'S TENNIS 2ND AT CANADIAN UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's tennis team earned the silver medal at the 2018 Canadian University Championships, August 11-12, at Aviva Centre.

It marks the second time in the past three seasons that the Blues placed second on the national stage.

Toronto was defeated by the University of Montreal in the gold-medal match of the national championships, held in conjunction with the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

The Blues started out strong in doubles with a quick win by Felix Fan and Brett Stinson in the No. 3 spot. U of T's No. 1 pair of Sasha Obucina and Nathan Wong came back from a 7-4 deficit to tie the score at 7-7, but ultimately fell in the tiebreaker by just two points. In the No. 2 spot, Andrew Bourne-Kaponeridis
and Cameron Chiang also lost a close 8-6 match.

Brett Stinson notched Toronto's only singles win in straight sets.
