BLUES FALL TO NO. 10 MUSTANGS IN OUA QUARTER-FINALS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team fell 4-2 to the No. 10 Western Mustangs in Game 2 of their OUA quarter-final matchup, putting an end to their season, on Friday, February 23 at Varsity Arena.

Toronto got on the score sheet first by capitalizing on an early powerplay just under two minutes into the first period. Fourth-year forward Kassie Roache potted in a rebound chance on a Mathilde De Serres shot.

However, with just over three minutes to go in the frame, Western's Amanda Pereira scored a powerplay goal to equalize it at 1-1 after the opening 20 minutes.

The Mustangs dominated the second period, with Alyssa Chiarello scoring two goals for her team. The second-year forward capitalized on a Toronto turnover at 4:48, and followed it up four minutes later with a rocket from the point.

The Blues did respond later, with rookie defender Gabrielle De Serres sniping the team's second powerplay goal of the game at the 14:41 mark of the second period, which was as close as they got.

Blues goaltenders Valencia Yordanov stopped 12 shots, while teammate Madeline Albert made 10 saves in relief.
