Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team dropped a 3-2 double overtime decision in Game 1 of their best-of-three OUA quarter-final series with the Western Mustangs on Wednesday, February 21 in London, Ont.

The Blues will look to even the series this Friday, February 23 as they host Game 2 at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are on sale

Game 3, if necessary, is slated for Saturday night (Feb. 24) back at Western at 7 p.m.

Down 2-0 with six minutes remaining in regulation, the Blues scored two quick goals to force the extra frame.

Second-year forward Breanna Berndsen got Toronto on the board with a goal assisted by Rebecca Bourgeois and Kiyono Cox.

Then, with just 1:17 remaining, third-year forward Jessica Robichaud evened the score with an unassisted marker to force overtime.

Western's Sheilyn Waites proved to be the game's hero, scoring 12:25 into the second overtime period to seal the Game 1 victory.

After a scoreless first period, Western opened the scoring with a shorthanded marker from Catherine O'Connor late in the second frame. They extended their lead to two after Alyssa Chiarello found the back of the net seven minutes into the third frame.

Blues rookie netminder Madeline Albert posted 34 saves in the loss.Â
