PARKES HOT HAND LEADS BLUES OVER LANCERS

Fourth-year guard Keyira Parkes matched her career-high 26 points to lead the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team to a 67-62 win over the Windsor Lancers on Friday night (Nov. 24) at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

It marks the first time Toronto beat Windsor since Nov. 26, 2011.

TORONTO STATS: Parkes went 7-for-15 for a game-high 26 points, while adding five rebounds and two assists. First-year forward Jessica Muha was the next leading scorer with nine points and five rebounds, four of which were on the offensive glass.

Veteran forward Charlotte Collyer recorded eight points, four boards and three steals in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Six different Blues registered a point in the first quarter, but U of T trailed 16-11 after the opening 10 minutes. Lauren Boers and Collyer each registered six points in the second quarter to head into halftime down 36-33.



 

Toronto came out flying after break, opening the third quarter on a 15-0 run to capture their first lead of the contest. Parkes exploded for 14 points in the frame as the Blues outscored the Lancers 23-9 and were up 56-45 heading into the fourth.
 




Parkes kept the grove in the fourth quarter. The Scarborough, Ont., native registered seven of the teams 11 points to hold off Windsor the rest of the way.

UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues play their last game of the calendar year on the road against the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday (Dec. 1). Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
