TORONTO CAN'T GET PAST NO.10 THUNDERWOLVES

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team dropped an 84-71 decision to the No. 10 Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday night (Dec. 1).

TORONTO STATS: Keyira Parkes recorded a team-high 17 points, while adding four rebounds and three assists. Third-year forward Nada Radonjic added 12 points, five rebounds, and two blocks.

Veteran forward Charlotte Collyer registered 12 points, four boards, two assists and a block. First-year guard Lauren Boers put up 12 points and four rebounds in a losing effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Varsity Blues went shot-for-shot with the Thunderwolves early on. Boers registered six points to help Toronto take a 19-18 lead after the opening 10 minutes. Lakehead responded in the second quarter, outscoring U of T 20-11, and went into halftime up 38-30.

The Thunderwolves continued to push the pace to open the second half, leading by as much as 19 in the third quarter. Parkes and Toronto responded though, ending the quarter on a 11-5 run, cutting the lead to 13 heading into the fourth. The Blues sustained that third-quarter momentum, sparking a 16-9 run in the final frame as Toronto got to within three, 70-67, but were not able to close it out in Thunder Bay.

UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues resume regular-season action on Saturday, January 5, hosting the Ottawa Gee-Gees at home and back in the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
