Second-year guard Evan Shadkami notched a career-high 33 points to lead the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team to an 85-81 victory over the Algoma Thunderbirds on Friday, November 2 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.
TORONTO STATS: Shadkami went 9-for-16 from the floor, 6-for-10 from beyond the arc and 9-for-11 from the free throw line, while adding four boards, three assists and one steal.
Fourth-year forward Daniel Johansson had 12 points and three boards, while fellow veteran Nikola Paradina notched 11 points and a team-high eight boards in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The entire game was a back-and-forth battle with 11 lead changes and seven deadlocks over the 40 minutes. Toronto held a narrow 39-37 lead at halftime, but the Thunderbirds battled back and were up by nine (76-67) with just over five minutes remaining in the game.
Shadkami took charge, draining 13 of Toronto's 18 remaining points to seal the victory.
