BLUES END PRESEASON WITH SHOOTOUT LOSS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team capped off their pre-season schedule with a 3-2 shootout loss to the York Lions on Saturday, October 6 at Varsity Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Jenna Headrick set up Adrianna Noble for the opening marker only 25 seconds into the contest. The Lions responded later in the period, thanks to Courtney Gardiner goal at 8:52. Toronto regained the advantage in the second.

Rookie forward Mackenzie Macdonald fired in her first career goal for U of T around seven and half minute into the frame. Once again though, York evened up the score. On the powerplay, Taylor Davison's shot found the back of the net at 8:34 into the third period. Neither side scored in the frame or in overtime, so a shootout was needed. After York's second shooter Natalie Dean went five-hole on Madeline Albert, Toronto's Kassie Roache wasn't able to extend it.

Second-year goalie Albert made 17 saves in a losing effort.

UP NEXT: The Blue and White have a week off before they begin their season at home against the Windsor Lancers on Saturday, October 6. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Varsity Arena.
