BLUES OPEN SEASON WITH A WINNING WEEKEND

The No. 4 University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team sealed off a winning weekend with a 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-14) victory over the Brock Badgers on Saturday night (Oct. 27) at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.  
  
TORONTO STATS:  Alina Dormann once again led U of T, tallying a team-high 18.5 points off of 16 kills, 1.5 blocks and one ace, and had 10 digs on the night.
 
Anna Licht impressed, amassing 13.5 points off of nine kills, three aces and 1.5 blocks, while second-year middle Jenna Woock had 13 points, highlighted by a game-high five aces, while adding three kills and five blocks.

Third-year outside hitter Brianna Patrick also notched 13 points, 12 coming from kills, adding six digs on the night. 

Sophomore setter Rayn Perry tallied 23 assists and 10 digs in the victory, while fellow sophomore setter Hayley Goodwin totaled 18 assists and three digs. Fifth-year veteran Anna Feore added a team-high 13 digs. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues got out to an early 11-5 lead in the first set and, despite the Badgers clawing back, led 16-13 at the technical timeout. Toronto went on to win the opening set 25-19.
 
U of T found themselves playing catchup most of the second set. The Blue and White trailed 16-10 at the technical timeout, battling back to take their first lead of the set at 17-16 on a Woock five-serve run. The Blues would get up to a 23-19 lead but the Badgers ended the frame on a 6-0 run, taking the set 25-23. 
 
The third set matched the intensity of the second and the Blues had themselves in a precarious situation, but took a 16-13 advantage into the technical timeout. Toronto played their best ball to take it 25-23.
 
The Blues quickly took the lead in the fourth and final set and led 16-11 at the break.They sealed their second straight win with a 25-14 victory over the Badgers.

UP NEXT: Toronto's next matchup is next Saturday (Nov. 3) as they host the Queen's Gaels at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Opening serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
