Fourth-year striker Jack Wadden scored in the 110th minute to lead the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs in OUA playoff action on Wednesday night (Oct. 24) at Varsity Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues outshot the Voyageurs 3-1 in the first half, but the match remained scoreless.
Toronto's best chance to score came in the 67th minute when sophomore standout Anthony Sousa rang a shot off the post. The Blues continued to pressure and had a nice chance to score in the 90th minute, but Voyageurs goalkeeper Connor Vande Weghe came up with a big save to force extra time.
Wadden finally broke the deadlock midway through the second overtime half. The Ottawa native finished off a nice tic-tac-toe play with Youself Helmey and Nikola Stakic and headed the ball into the back of the net.
First-year Blues goalkeeper Sebastian Sgarbossa made four saves in the clean sheet victory.
UP NEXT: Toronto will travel to Downsview Park to take on the No. 2 Ryerson Rams this Sunday, October 28 at 7 p.m.
