The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team defeated the Nipissing Lakers 2-1 on Saturday, October 20 at Varsity Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Fourth-year striker Natasha Klasios opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, giving the Blues a 1-0 lead.
In the 77th minute, team captain Chelsea Cheung added another goal for the Blue & White, sliding one past Mykaela Volpe to bring Toronto's lead to 2-0.
Ten minutes later, Nipissing's Abby Wroe scored for the Lakers but Toronto would hold onto to secure the three points.
Third-year Blues goalkeeper Vanna Staggolis tallied six saves in the win.
With the win, the Blues remain in sixth place in the OUA East division with one regular season match remaining. Toronto needs a win or a tie tomorrow to secure a playoff berth.
UP NEXT: The Blues host Laurentian (4-7-4) tomorrow (Oct. 21). Game time is set for 3:00 p.m., at Varsity Stadium.
