BLUES FALL TO LIONS IN RED & BLUE BOWL

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team dropped a 41-16 decision to the York Lions in the 48th annual Red & Blue Bowl on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 23) at Alumni Field.
 
The Lions reclaim the Argo Cup for the first time since 2012 following a four-year win streak by the Blues. York built a 24-2 lead at halftime that U of T was unable to overcome, despite putting up a season-high 404 yards of total offence.
 
Second-year quarterback Clay Sequeira came into the game in the second half and went 10-for-19 for 225 yards and one touchdown, while also rushing three times for 30 yards and one major. Third-year pivot Connor Ennis started the game and went 5-for-9 for 54 yards in the loss.
 
Rookie receiver Jaykwon Thompson had a breakout game, making five receptions for 130 yards, including his second touchdown of the season on an 85-yard catch and run midway through the fourth quarter.
 
Veteran running back Kaleb Leach led the Blues on the ground with 14 carries for 70 yards, while Cole Goodfellow rushed seven times for 46 yards on the day.  
 
Fifth-year linebacker Paul Kozachuk and sophomore safety Austin Rosbrook led the Blues with 7.5 tackles each, while Corey Williams had seven tackles in the loss.
 
The Varsity Blues head into a bye week before hosting the McMaster Marauders on Thursday, October 5 at Varsity Stadium. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
