U OF T SUFFERS TOUGH LOSS TO BROCK

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team were anticipating a tough game against Brock University as they hosted the Badgers at Varsity Stadium on Sunday night (Sept. 17), but what the Blues ran into was a buzz saw as Brock won the game 21-2.

It didn't help that Toronto was missing three middies due to injuries which left the team with only 19 players dressed for the game. The short bench took it's toll as the team wore down as the game progressed.

Brock went up 4-0 after the first quarter and led 10-0 at the half.

The Blues scored their two goals in the third quarter on markers by freshman Darren Elliott and veteran attack AJ Masson.

Brock scored four goals in the third quarter and finished with six more in the fourth.

"It's difficult to take any positives away from a game like this, but there were a couple," said Varsity Blues head coach Joe Nizich. "Riley McGillis was outstanding in net and the score could have been a lot worse if he hadn't made a number of outstanding saves. Also, considering the huge differential in time of possession, the defense played well but understandably got tired."

Toronto faces another tough opponent on Friday, September 22 when they travel to London, Ont., to play the Western Mustangs before returning to Varsity Stadium to host the McMaster Marauders on Sunday, September 24.
