BLUES SHUT OUT HAWKS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team wrapped up the first half of the season with a 3-0 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 2) at Varsity Arena.

With the win, the Blues head into the December exam break with a 6-0-5-1 (W-OTW-L-OTL) record, tied for fifth place in the OUA standings.

Fourth-year forward Kassie Roache opened the scoring 13 minutes into the game as she came out of the penalty box and received a long breakaway pass from Cristine Chao. Roache made no mistake, sending a booming slap shot into the bottom left corner of the net.

Blues netminder Madeline Albert earned her first career assist on the goal. Toronto was up 1-0 after 20 minutes of action.

The Blues extended their lead early in the second frame as University of North Dakota transfer Breanna Berndsen scored her first career goal as a Varsity Blue through the legs of Hawks goalie Hannah Miller. U of T took a 2-0 lead into the second intermission.

Team captain Rebecca Bourgeois added an empty-netter, her first goal of the season, with 34 seconds remaining to round out the scoring.

Albert ended the game with 15 saves, earning her third shut out victory of the season.

The Varsity Blues resume regular season action in the New Year as they host the Windsor Lancers on Friday, January 5 at Varsity Arena.
