HIGH-SCORING SCHOOL DAY ENDS IN RAMS FAVOUR

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team fell 5-3 to the Ryerson Rams in School Day action on Thursday, November 9 at Varsity Arena.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 4-0-2-0 (W-OTW-L-OTL), while the Rams improve to 3-2-1-1 early in the season.

Fourth-year forward Kassie Roache got the Blues on the board in the opening minutes as she finished off a pass from Louie Bieman in front of the net.

Veteran defenceman Julia Szulewska notched her first goal of the season to put Toronto up by two midway through the first frame as she wired a shot from the point to beat Rams netminder Sydney Authier.

Ryerson responded with two quick goals in the dying minutes of the first frame. Rookie forward Brooklyn Gemmill capitalized on the powerplay, burying a rebound in front of the Blues net. Under two minutes later, Ryerson captain Ailish Forfar pulled a nifty move in the slot and back handed it in to even the score at 2-2 at the first intermission.

Adrianna Noble put the Blues ahead early in the second period, capitalizing on a Stephanie Ayres rebound in front of the net. The lead was short lived though as the Rams took advantage of some Blues penalty trouble.

First, Forfar scored her second of the game on a 5-on-3 advantage and exactly one minute later, Emma Low-A-Chee tipped in a Keelin Farren point shot to put the Rams up 4-3.

Forfar completed the hattrick at the 7:02 mark of the second frame off a back-door pass from Gemmill and the Rams held a 5-3 lead after 40 minutes.

Blues netminder Madeline Albert made 22 saves in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to action this Saturday, November 11 as they host the Waterloo Warriors at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 3 p.m. Advance tickets are on sale here.
