BLUES UNABLE TO KEEP UP WITH NO. 8 GAELS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team fell 4-1 to the No. 8 Queen's Gaels on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 25) in Kingston, Ont.

With the loss, U of T drops to 5-0-5-1 (W-OTW-L-OTL) on the season, while the nationally ranked Gaels improve to 8-2-0-1 atop the OUA standings.

The Blue and White started the afternoon tilt with a purpose, scoring the first goal just under two minutes into the contest. Pushing hard into the Queen's zone, Toronto was able to force the action directly in front of Gaels goaltender Stephanie Pascal, allowing first-year forward Louie Bieman to open the scoring with her fourth goal of the season. Veterans Rebecca Bourgeois and Meagan O'Brien picked up assists on the opening marker.

Following the Blues fast start, however, Queen's was able to respond with two powerplay markers of their own as Toronto found themselves plagued by penalties in the first 20 minutes. Heading to the box five times in the opening frame, both Bryce Desa and Katrina Manoukarakis were able to convert two of those man-advantage opportunities for the Gaels, securing a 2-1 first period lead.

In the second, Alex Maw added another for Queen's slipping the puck past Varsity Blues goalie Katey Teekasingh from in close.

Hailey Wilson rounded out the scoring on the afternoon with an insurance marker just past the midway point of the third.

Teekasingh finished the afternoon making 24 saves, while Pascal recorded 23.

The Blue and White will look to rebound next Saturday, December 2 when they welcome the Laurier Golden Hawks to Varsity Arena for their final game of the fall semester. The game also marks the first of a five game home stand for U of T reaching into the new year. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m. with the game also streamed live on OUA.tv.
