MEN'S SOCCER EARNS SIX OUA ALL-STAR SPOTS

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues were recognized with six all-star honours as Ontario University Athletics announced 2017 men's soccer award winners on Thursday.

Now named an OUA all-star in all five of his seasons, Devon Bowyer was selected to the first team this year after once again proving to be one of the best defenders in the province. A Toronto native, Bowyer dressed in 71 matches over his Varsity Blues career, recording two goals and five assists from his defensive position, including one assist this season.

Receiving the honour for the fourth consecutive year, fifth-year captain Lukas MacNaughton rounded out his time in the Blue and White in fine form. Adding another five goals in 2017, the Brussels, Belgium native lifted his career total to 17, an impressive feat for the defensive midfielder. MacNaughton guided the Varsity Blues attack from the back, proving to be especially effective from set pieces.

Fellow defensive guru, Nikola Stakic, earns OUA first team all-star honours for the second straight season. The kinesiology major started 14 matches for U of T this season, serving in the key role of centre-back, while also chipping in four goals and two assists offensively.

Rounding out the OUA first team honours for the Blue and White is first-year midfielder Marko Mandekic. The Kitchener, Ont., native proved to be a strong table setter for the Blues, picking up two goals and four assists in his first season.

Named OUA second team all-stars were fifth-year striker Nirun Sivananthan and third-year defender Kenny Lioutas. Sivananthan finished second in team scoring with six goals, lifting his five-season career total to 24. Meanwhile, Lioutas proved to be a constant on the back end for the Blues, starting in 15 matches, while recording four goals and one assist.
