BLUES FALL TO LAKERS IN NORTH BAY

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to the Nipissing Lakers on Friday evening (Nov. 17) in North Bay, Ont.
 
After a scoreless first period, the Lakers opened the scoring late in the second frame with a goal off the stick of Maria Dominico.
 
The Blues responded though as sophomore forward Stephanie Ayres found the back of the net less than two minutes later for her first goal of the season.
 
The two teams were deadlocked at 1-1 after 40 minutes of action.
 
Nipissing sealed the win with two early goals in the third period. Sam Strassburger notched the eventual game-winner 29 seconds into the final frame, while Jade Gauthier added an insurance marker on the powerplay six minutes later.
 
Dominico added an empty netter with 11 seconds remaining in the game.
 
Third-year Blues netminder Valencia Yordanov made 22 saves in her first start of the season.
 
The Varsity Blues are back in action tomorrow as they travel to Sudbury, Ont., to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs. Game time is set for 3:50 p.m.
