THIRD PERIOD GOALS PROVE COSTLY FOR BLUES

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team fell 3-2 to the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 11) at Varsity Arena.

With the loss, the Blues move to 4-0-3-0 (W-OTW-L-OTL), while the Warriors advance to 4-1-1-0 early in the season.

The Warriors opened the scoring halfway into the first period on the powerplay with Maryn Caragata finishing a Tegan Odland rebound.

Capitalizing on a two-man advantage, Blues veteran Meagan O'Brien then tipped in a Gabrielle De Serres shot 13 minutes into the second period to even the score at 1-1.

U of T fifth-year netminder Katey Teekasingh made a spectacular short handed cross crease save with just five minutes left in the second frame to keep the contest tied heading into the third.

However, Waterloo would take back their lead with an early third period goal from Cynthia Cavanagh, who just snuck the puck around Teekasingh's skate.

Then, the Warriors furthered their lead with a goal from Angela MacDonald at the 12 minute mark of the third period.

U of T brought the score to a one goal differential with Kassie Roache tipping in a Rebecca Bourgeois shot with just 20 second left in the contest, but the two third-period goals from the Warriors proved too costly.

Teekasingh posted 16 saves in the loss with her Waterloo counterpart Stephanie Sluys making 14.

The Blue and White are back in action on Friday, November 17 as they travel to North Bay, Ont., to take on the Nipissing Lakers. Puck drops at 4:30 p.m and will be live streamed on OUA.tv.
