The Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team traveled down the QEW on Friday night (Oct. 6) for a rematch with the McMaster University Marauders. The two teams met two weeks ago with Toronto squeaking out a 10-9 victory. This time there was no doubt as the Blues came away with a 15-7 victory.
McMaster opened the scoring but Toronto answered with three straight goals, two from freshman attack Darren Elliott and a single by veteran attack Jason Barnable. McMaster scored their second of game but AJ Masson potted his first of the game to close out the first quarter 4-2 for Toronto.
The Blues stretched their lead in the second, scoring four straight times on markers by Barnable, Elliott and Jaxin da Roza and Justin Morandin. McMaster scored twice in the period but Elliott added his fourth of the game. The score at half was 9-4 for the Blues.
The Marauders were not going to go quietly and won the third quarter 3-1 with the lone Blues goal being scored by Barnable. The score after three quarters was 10-7 for U of T.
Toronto reasserted itself in the fourth quarter, scoring five times to close out the game 15-7. Elliott tallied his fifth goal of the game, Barnable his fourth, da Roza his second and singles by
Davis Bottomley and Ben Klar, his first of the season.
Barnable finished with four goals and five assists, while Elliott had five goals and two assists.
The Blues have two important games at home this coming weekend against Laurentian University Saturday night at 7:30 p.m., and Wilfrid Laurier University on Sunday night at 7:30 p.m.
