DAY REACHES CAREER MILESTONE, BUT VOYAGEURS SNAP BLUES WIN STREAK

Box Score Fifth-year University of Toronto forward Taylor Day scored her 50th career regular season goal but the Varsity Blues women's hockey team fell 4-1 to the Laurentian Voyageurs on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 22) in Sudbury, Ont.

The Blues win streak is snapped at five games as Toronto drops to 10-1-6-0 (W-OTW-L-OTL) but remain in third place in the OUA standings.

Day opened the scoring just 36 seconds into the contest to become only the 10th player in program history to reach the 50-goal mark. She joins the likes of Team Canada legends Loris Dupuis and Andrea Hunter on U of T's all-time leading scorers list.

The Voyageurs evened the score 2:31 into the second period as Morgan McCann sent a shot through traffic to beat Blues netminder Katey Teekasingh.

The two teams were tied 1-1 after 40 minutes.

Laurentian took their first lead of the game early in the third period as Marie-Pierre Pelissou scored 3:48 into the final frame. Jessica Staats would add an insurance marker with just 4:42 remaining and Maggie Brennan rounded out the scoring with an empty net goal.

The Varsity Blues return to action this Friday, January 27 as they host the UOIT Ridgebacks in their 10th annual Think Pink, #BleedBlue game at Varsity Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
