BLUES COME BACK TO BEAT BADGERS

Box Score Third-year forward Becki Bowering netted the game-winning goal with 6:34 remaining in the third period as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team defeated the Brock Badgers 3-2 in a School Day game on Friday afternoon (Jan. 13) in St. Catharines, Ont.

With the win the Blues improve to 8-1-5-0 (W-OTW-L-OTL) and move into a tie for third place with a game in hand.

After a scoreless first period, Brock netted two quick goals early in the second frame. The Blues got on the board midway through the period as fourth-year forward Katherine Gale capitalized on a Badgers turnover in the slot and sent a nice shot past Brock goalie Jensen Murphy.

Toronto was trailing 2-1 after 40 minutes of action.

The Blues evened the score midway through the third period as Lauren Straatman tipped in a Cristine Chao point shot off the face off.

Bowering proved to be the game's hero, forcing a turnover and finishing off a nice 2-on-1 pass from Alessandra Bianchi for the game-winner.

Fourth-year netminder Katey Teekasingh made 20 saves in Toronto's third straight victory.

The Varsity Blues are back in action tomorrow night as they host the York Lions at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
