The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team dropped their first decision of the season falling 4-3 to the visiting Guelph Gryphons Saturday (Sept. 24) morning at Back Campus Fields.

The Gryphons were first on the board just 10 minutes into the contest, but the Blues were quick to respond as fourth-year co-captain Lauren Sudac took advantage of a Guelph turnover deking past Gryphons goalkeeper Morgan Kelley for the equalizer just one minute later.

Third-year forward Morgan Sleeth followed that up with a marker in the 19th minute to hand U of T a 2-1 lead entering the break.

However, the Gryphons came out on fire to start the second half scoring two goals in the first two minutes to retake the lead.

First-year Rachel Spouge restored the tie for the Blues five minutes later, but Guelph secured the victory on a fast-break in the final minute of the game, slipping one last goal past first-year goalkeeper Elizabeth O-Hara.

Toronto returns to the turf this afternoon (Sept. 24) to take on the Waterloo Warriors. Action at Back Campus Fields begins at 2:15 p.m.
