BLUES BLANK NO. 8 MUSTANGS ON HOME ICE

Box Score The Varsity Blue's women's hockey team defeated the No. 8 nationally ranked Western Mustangs 2-0 on Sunday, November 6 at Varsity Arena.

The win puts the Blues at 4-3 in their season. They have won all three of their home games thus far and now have a two-game winning streak.

The Blues dominated the second period with 19 shots on net in the period alone. Blues veteran Kristi Riseley skated from around the net to give a backhand pass to Jessica Maggioni, who tipped the puck past Mustang goalie Katie Jacobs, for her first career goal.

Just over a minute later on a power play, U of T's Katherine Gale also scored her first goal of the season to put the Blues ahead by two. Blues defender Cristine Chao had a great chance in the second after pinching into the offensive play, but couldn't find the back of the net.

Blue's goalie Valencia Yordanov made a spectacular pad save in the second to shut down a Mustang breakaway.

The Blues almost scored a short-handed goal in the third when Chao intercepted a Mustang pass, drove for the net, and passed it to Riseley just in front of the crease, but she couldn't get it past Jacobs.

The Blues ended the game with 45 shots on net and Yordanov posted 29 saves in the win to get the shutout.

The Blue and White are back in action Friday, November 11 against the Waterloo Warriors at Varsity Arena. Puck drops at 7 pm.
