BLUES FALL TO GAELS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Queen's Gaels on Sunday, November 27 at Varsity Arena.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 5-1-5-0 (W-OTW-L-OTL) heading into the December exam break.

The Gaels scored early and often as fourth-year forward Megan Farrell opened the scoring just 1:01 into the contest as her shot snuck under the glove of Blues netminder Hailey Farrelly.

Queen's took a 2-0 lead less than five minutes later when Kaylie Dennis buried an Amber Sealey rebound.

The Blues shone throughout the second period, outshooting the Gaels 12-5, but Queen's goalie Stephanie Pascal stood on her head to keep the Blues off the score sheet.

Toronto was able to spoil the shut out though as third-year defenceman Julia Szulewska sent a point shot through traffic on a 6-on-5 opportunity with 1:37 to go, but the Blues were unable to find the back of the net again.

Gaels forward Nadia Larocca added an empty-netter with 47 seconds remaining to secure the victory.

Farrelly ended the game with 25 saves.

The Varsity Blues resume regular season action in the New Year as they travel to Windsor, Ont., on Wednesday, January 4 to take on the Lancers. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
