Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team defeated the York Lions, 4-3 in a shoot out, on Saturday, November 26 at Canlan Ice Sports.

Tied 3-3 after overtime, team captain Kristi Riseley and fellow fifth-year veteran Taylor Day both scored in the shoot out, with sophomore netminder Valencia Yordanov stopping two Lions, to secure the victory.

The Lions opened the scoring 30 seconds into the contest with a goal off the stick of Steffei Samuel and York held onto the 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

The Blues evened the score just 39 seconds into the second frame as third-year forward Meagan O'Brien tipped in a Cristine Chao point shot. Toronto took the lead as Riseley found the back of the net on the powerplay at the 8:57 mark of the second period.

U of T then took a 3-1 lead less than three minutes later as Day finished off a shorthanded 2-on-0 with Lauren Straatman. The Lions responded to bring the game within one as Taylor Davison notched a powerplay marker and the Blues held a 3-2 advantage after 40 minutes of action.

The Lions evened the score 3:44 into the third frame with an unassisted goal from Rianna Langford and the game headed to overtime.

Yordanov posted 25 saves in the win.

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow afternoon (Nov. 27) as they wrap up the fall semester hosting the Queen's Gaels in their first annual Leaside Wildcats Hockey Day at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 3 p.m.
