BLUES CLOSE OUT FALL SEMESTER THIS WEEKEND

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team hosts their first annual Leaside Wildcats Hockey Day when they take on the Queen's Gaels this Sunday, November 27 at Varsity Arena.

Puck drop is set for 3 p.m. Advance tickets are on sale here. The game will also be streamed live on OUA.tv

Leaside Wildcats players who wear their jersey will receive two free tickets to Sunday's contest. The minor hockey players will have a chance to meet and greet with the Blues following the game. To register, please click here.

Prior to Sunday's match-up, the Blues travel North of the city to take on the York Lions on Saturday (Nov. 26). Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Varsity Blues are 5-0-4-0 (W-OTW-L-OTL) and in eighth place, but hold one or two games in hand over four teams ahead of them in the standings. Two wins this weekend could catapult the Blues into fourth place before heading into the winter break.

Fifth-year forward Taylor Day led the Blues to a 6-1 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks, scoring two goals and adding three assists in the victory last weekend. She currently tops the team with 10 points, while sophomore defenceman Cristine Chao has six assists and seven points in nine games this season.

Second-year netminder Valencia Yordanov has been solid between the pipes, currently ranking third in the OUA in goals against average (1.38) and save percentage (.948).

The Queen's Gaels are in ninth place with a 4-1-6-0 record, but defeated the Blues, 3-0, in their first meeting of the season on Oct. 29 in Kingston.

The York Lions are 1-1-6-3 and in 11th place, having lost their last seven contests.
