BLUES HOST LANCERS, MUSTANGS THIS WEEKEND

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team returns to Varsity Arena this weekend (Nov. 5-6) as they open a four-game home stand against the Windsor Lancers and Western Mustangs.

The Blues will look to home ice as they attempt to right the ship following a pair of losses on the road last weekend. The puck drop at 3 p.m. with both games being streamed live on OUA.tv.

Playmaking for the Blues this season has come from the blue line as 2015-16 CIS all-rookie Cristine Chao has picked up right where she left off last season. Serving as the setup on the point, Chao has notched another three assists this season adding to her total from a season ago when she led all OUA defenseman.

Meanwhile, fellow blue-liner Julia Szulewska has found her shot, picking up two powerplay goals this past weekend. The third-year defenceman serves well on the man-advantage utilizing her powerful shot to get U of T on the board.

The duo have also proven reliable in the defensive zone and defence will be key for U of T to turn things around as they welcome two high-powered offences to Toronto.

For Windsor, third-year forward Krystin Lawrence led the OUA last season with 31 points (13 G, 18 A) and once again sees herself atop the leader-board in 2016-17 with eight points (6 G, 2 A). Combined with Erinn Noseworthy and Shawna Lesperance the trio makes up the top three OUA scorers from a year ago.

As for Western, both veteran Lyndsay Kirkham and first-year Alyssa Chiarello have already proven to have a scoring touch sitting tied for second in the OUA in goals with four each. Chiarello also enters the weekend riding a three-game goal streak.

Following the doubleheader with Windsor and Western, the Varsity Blues will stay home to challenge the Waterloo Warriors next Friday, November 11. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the game also being streamed live on OUA.tv.
