THIRD PERIOD GOAL SINKS BLUES

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blue's women's hockey team fell 1-0 to the Waterloo Warriors on Friday, November 11 at Varsity Arena.

The loss puts U of T at 4-4 and in a three-way tie for fifth in the competitive OUA standings.

The Blues dominated the first period, playing mostly in the Waterloo zone. Blues rookie Jana Headrick had a great chance to open the scoring, but her shot from the point hit the crossbar.

Waterloo came out strong in the second period and had many chances but Blues netminder Valencia Yordanov shut them out by making some great saves. Fifth-year U of T forward Taylor Day had some great chances and tried to rally the troops but the game remained scoreless after 40 minutes.

Yordanov was kept busy during the third period with 11 shots on net, but it was second-year Warriors forward Angela MacDonald who would break the stalemate, find the back of the net at the 9:42 mark of the third frame for what would stand as the game-winner.

Yordanov posted 24 saves in the loss, while Stephanie Sluys made 21 saves in the shut out victory.

The Blue and White are back in action on Friday, November 18 against the Laurier Golden Hawks at Varsity Arena. Puck drops at 7 pm.
