Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team fell 54-3 to the No. 7 Laurier Golden Hawks on Thursday night (Oct. 6) at Varsity Stadium.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 1-6 and are eliminated from playoff contention. The Hawks improve to 5-1 with two regular season games remaining.

Fifth-year Blues quarterback Marcus Hobbs went 17-for-29 for 170 yards, while also rushing seven times for 27 yards on the night.

Rahul Madan had five receptions for 58 yards, while Anthony Naccarato posted four catches for 40 yards. Alberta Awachie recorded three catches for 39 yards.

Third-year linebacker Michael Leslie led the Blues with 6.5 tackles, while Adrian Bernard recorded six tackles and one break up. Carter Gladman also had six tackles in the loss.

Rookie running back Jaiden Hyland-Bennett ended the night with 128 all-purpose yards. The Scarborough, Ont., native had three kick returns for 81 yards, two punt returns for 39 yards and rushed once for eight yards.

Quarterback Michael Knevel was 13-of-19 for 274 yards and three touchdowns. Second-year receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr., recorded three receptions for 98 yards, had five punt returns for 129 yards and one touchdown and rushed once for 14 yards.

Osayi Iginuan ran the ball 20 times for 100 yards and one major, while Levondre Gordon had 16 carries for 68 yards and one TD. Rookie receiver Brentyn Hall hauled in five passes for 121 yards and one touchdown in the win.

The Varsity Blues wrap up their 2016 season when they host the Waterloo Warriors next Saturday, October 15 at Varsity Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
