Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team dropped a 6-2 decision to the UOIT Ridgebacks in a School Day Game on Friday, October 28 in Oshawa, Ont.
The Ridgebacks opened the scoring on their first powerplay opportunity as Kassidy Nauboris redirected a Nicole Gorda shot into the net. UOIT led 1-0 after the first period.
The home team extended their lead 2:14 into the second period but the Blues responded and got on the board with a powerplay marker from Julia Szulewska just over two minutes later.
The Ridgebacks then opened the flood gates, scoring twice late in the second period to carry a 4-1 lead into the final frame.
Â
However, Szulewska added her second powerplay marker to help the Blues cut the deficit to two at 8:49 into the third period, but UOIT responded off the ensuing face off and added a late tally on the man advantage to round out the 6-2 victory.
Â
U of T goaltender Valencia Yordanov finished the day with 22 saves while Ridgebacks Cassie Charette made 29 in the victory.
The Varsity Blues are back in action tomorrow as they travel to Kingston, Ont., to take on the Queen's Gaels. Puck drop is set for 2:30 p.m.
