BLUES BLANK MARAUDERS, ADVANCE TO OUA SEMIFINALS

The top seeded University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team opened the 2016 OUA championship with a 4-0 victory over the McMaster Marauders on Friday morning (Oct. 28) in London, Ont.

Toronto, the two-time reigning OUA champions, will now face the winner of Waterloo/Queen's in semi-final action tomorrow at 1 p.m. The OUA champion will earn a spot at the 2016 CIS championship, hosted by U of T, next week (Nov. 3-6) at Back Campus Fields. Should the Blues be crowned champions, the OUA silver medalist will earn the fourth and final spot at nationals.

Third-year forward Morgan Sleeth led the Blues, scoring in the 13th and 33rd minutes to give the Blues a 2-0 lead at the half.

Veteran Taylor Fleck scored off a penalty corner in the 37th minute and Nicole Godman rounded out the scorin in the 56th.

Sara Fredo earned the win in net for U of T.
