BLUES LOOK TO 3-PEAT IN LONDON

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team heads to London, Ont., to defend their title at the 2016 OUA field hockey championship, October 28-30, hosted by the Western Mustangs.

The Blues enter the newly formatted tournament as the No. 1 seed following an 11-1-0 regular season record.

Toronto will face the No. 8 McMaster Marauders in quarter-final action on Friday morning at 9 a.m. The winner of that game will go onto to face the winner of Queen's/Waterloo in semi-final action on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The championship wraps up with the OUA gold-medal match on Sunday at 3 p.m. The OUA champion will earn a spot at the 2016 CIS championship, hosted by U of T, next week (Nov. 3-6) at Back Campus Fields. Should the Blues be crowned champions, the OUA silver medalist will earn the fourth and final spot at nationals.

The Canada West champion UBC Thunderbirds and silver medalist Victoria Vikes have already booked their tickets on the national stage.

The Varsity Blues will be vying for their third consecutive and OUA-leading 32nd provincial banner since 1971.

Fifth-year veteran Alison Lee led the Blues and ranked second in OUA scoring with 14 goals, while also leading Toronto to an OUA-low eight goals against in 12 regular season games.

U of T has three other standouts who ranked among the Top 10 goal scorers as Megan Johansen, Morgan Sleeth and Nicole Spring notched five, seven and nine goals, respectively, this season.
