Box Score Fifth-year forward and team captain Kristi Riseley's second-period goal was all the Varsity Blues needed as the University of Toronto women's hockey team defeated the OUA defending champion Guelph Gryphons 1-0 on Saturday, October 22 at Varsity Arena.

With the win, the Blues improve to 2-0-1-0 in the early goings of the season.

After a scoreless first period, Riseley notched the game-winner 4:03 into the second, receiving a beautiful pass from fellow veteran Taylor Day before beating 2015-16 CIS player of the year Valeria Lamenta for the goal.

Second-year Blues netminder Valencia Yordanov notched her second shut out of the season, making 23 saves in the victory.

The Varsity Blues return to action return to action next Friday, October 28 as they head to Oshawa, Ont., to take on the UOIT Ridgebacks in another School Day game. The puck drops at 11:30 a.m.
