The Varsity Blues enter the 2016-17 season with their eyes on the post season following a disappointing exit in 2015-16.
After finishing the regular season in second place (12-4-4-4), the Blues dropped their three-game OUA quarter-final series to the Laurier Golden Hawks.
"The league is so close and the teams are so competitive. I think our first challenge is making the playoffs. All of our returners are hungry and want to be more successful in the post season but we really need to focus on one game at a time. It will be really important that we don't look too far ahead."
The Blues return two of their top three point-getters from last season. Fifth-year forward Taylor Day led the squad with 15 goals and 10 assists for 25 points in 24 regular season games. The 2015-16 OUA all-star also spent time at the Hockey Cnaada women's development campt this past August in Calgary.
Kristi Riseley returns for her fifth and final year and second year as team captain. Riseley ranked third on the team with 17 points last season. Fellow veteran Rebecca Bourgeois will be called upong to lead a young defensive corps, which includes 2015-16 CIS all-rookie Cristine Chao.
Sophomore netminder Valencia Yordanov is back between the pipes for the Blues. Yordanov held a .939 save percentage over 19 games in her rookie season last year.
