WOMEN’S HOCKEY FALLS AFTER TOUGH THIRD PERIOD

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Nipissing Lakers on Friday night (Jan. 8) in North Bay, Ont.

First-year forward Jessica Robichaud opened the scoring, notching her first career goal 5:24 into the first period.

After a scoreless second period, the home team got on the board when Kaitlyn McManus found the back of the net 3:28 into the third frame.

Nipissing went ahead seven minutes later as Carly Marchment notched the game-winner unassisted. The Lakers added an empty netter in the final minute of play to round out the come-from-behind victory.

First-year Blues netminder Valencia Yordanov posted 21 saves in the loss.

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow as they travel to Sudbury, Ont., to take on the Laurentian Voyageurs. Game time is set for 3:50 p.m.
