SLOW START TOO MUCH TO OVERCOME

The Varsity Blues welcomed the Laurentian Voyageurs for their home opener Friday (Sept. 18) night. Despite a late game comeback effort, a slow start was too much to overcome as Toronto fell by a final of 11-7.

Toronto opened the scoring as first-year midfielder Jason Barnable (Whitby, Ont.) beat the Laurentian keeper less than a minute into the game. However, the Voyageurs went on a scoring spree following the opening goal outscoring the Varsity Blues 8-2 in the first half.

As the third quarter started Toronto began to mount the comeback with Barnable recording his second goal of the game while being joined on the stats sheet by Mitch de Snoo (Oshawa, Ont.), Jonathan Rudyk (Toronto, Ont.), and Marc Santos (Toronto, Ont.) closing the gap to three.

The clock became the Varsity Blues enemy in the fourth quarter as Laurentian was able to maintain possession and close out the game ending Toronto's hopes of a comeback.

The Varsity Blues will look to rebound quickly as they get set to begin a home-and-home series with the Western Mustangs beginning Sunday, September 20 at Varsity Centre with opening faceoff set for 7:30 p.m.
