BLUES FALL SHORT ON NORTHERN SWING

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team began their 2015 campaign on a northern road trip, facing off against the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday and the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday. Despite dropping both of their games, strong second half efforts showcased the team's potential.

Mitch de Snoo (Oshawa, Ont.), a key member of the Blues 2015 recruiting class, overcame early foul trouble to notch a hat trick in the team's season opening 9-3 loss to the Voyageurs. De Snoo's NCAA experience played major dividends in the entire weekend as he would finish the opening doubleheader tied for second in the CUFLA with six total goals.

A slow start to the weekend's second game saw the Blues trailing 6-1 after one quarter against the Lakers, but a pair of goals from fellow 2015 recruiting class member Jason Barnable (Whitby, Ont.) allowed U of T to cut the lead in half, trailing only 8-4 at the break. The second half turned into a back-and-forth affair highlighted by another two goals from Barnable, but the Blues would fall by a final score of 12-9.

Toronto will now look ahead to avenging their opening loss to Laurentian as they welcome the Voyageurs on Friday, September 18 to Varsity Centre for their CUFLA home opener.
