The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team is set to host the fourth annual Holiday Toy Toss and Food Drive as they take on the Nipissing Lakers this Friday, November 27 at Varsity Arena.
The Blues also host the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday. Game time on both nights is 7:30 p.m.
Bring a toy and/or non-perishable food item to Friday night's game to support the campus toy and food drive. Plush toys will be thrown onto the ice at the first intermission break! All donations benefit the University of Toronto Students' Union food bank, supporting all students and families in need on the St. George Campus.
The No. 5 Varsity Blues are 5-2-1-2 (W-OTW-L-OTL) and looking to get back on track after three consecutive losses. U of T opened their 2015-16 campaign with seven consecutive wins before narrowly falling to the Brock Badgers, Waterloo Warriors and York Lions.
Fourth-year forward Talor Day leads the team with four goals and six assists for 10 points, while fellow veteran Sonja Weidenfelder has scored a team-high six times and added three assists for nine points. Team captain Kristi Riseley has also notched nine points with four goals and five assists to date.
Rookie goaltender Valencia Yordanov has started six games and ranked fourth in the OUA with a 1.09 goals against average.
The Nipissing Lakers are 5-0-3-3 and three points behind the Blues in the standings. Second-year forward Samantha Strassburger leads the squad with three goals and two assists for five points, while third-year goalie Jacqueline Rochefort holds a .954 save percentage in 10 games played.
The Laurentian Voyageurs are 3-1-6-1 and behind Nipissing in the standings. Defenceman Julie Herbert tops the Voyageurs with four goals and two assists for six points. Emily Toffoli and Laura Deller have split duties between the pipes, holding .909 and .932 save percentages, respectively.
