Laurier opened the scoring in the 30
th minute jumping out to a 7-0 lead but some strong passing from from U of T allowed Robert Welch (Vancouver) to find space before lowering his shoulder to carry Golden Hawk defenders in for the try. The Varsity Blues would carry the momentum into half, trailing just 7-5.
It was Laurier again who opened the scoring, as they jumped out to a 15-5 lead following a try and penalty goal. Toronto responded in the 68
th minute as a line-out near the Laurier touch line would lead to a strong push from the Blues, before Jack Davidson (Chelsea, Que.) escaped the pile for the try to make it 15-10 for Laurier.
Toronto continued to push for the comeback scoring their third try in the 78
th minute courtesy John Stewart (Whitby, Ont.) but timed turned into their enemy as they were unable to get the final try to tie things up.
The Varsity Blues are back in action Friday, October 9 when they welcome the Western Mustangs to Varsity Centre for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
