Box Score Third-year University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey defenceman Autumn Garnham scored 25 seconds into overtime to complete a come-from-behind 6-5 victory over the Windsor Lancers on Saturday, October 24 at South Windsor Arena.
With the win, the No. 5 nationally ranked Blues improve to 5-0-0 and sit atop the OUA standings.
Down 5-3 with under four minutes remaining, Toronto mounted a valiant comeback. With a Windsor player in the box and Toronto's goalie pulled, third-year defenceman Rebecca Bourgeois scored to bring the game within one with 3:30 to go in the third period. Then, less than two minutes later, Taylor Day evened the score, her second goal of the night, with just 1:34 left to force OT.
Garnham stepped up, scoring in her second consecutive game, just 25 seconds into overtime to seal the U of T victory.
Team captain Kristi Riseley led the Blues with two goals and two assists, while Day had two goals. Garnahm and Bourgeois each scored one in the victory.
Third-year netminder Katey Teekasingh posted 34 saves in her first start of the season.
The Varsity Blues are right back at it tomorrow when they travel to London, Ont., to take on the No. 1 Western Mustangs.
