BLUES NOTCH FIRST WIN OVER NIPISSING

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team defeated the Nipissing Lakers 18-13 on Saturday night (Oct. 17) at Varsity Centre.

Veteran attacker A.J. Masson and first-year midfielder Jason Barnable led the Blues with five goals apiece, while Mitch De Snoo tallied four goals in Toronto's first win of the season. Marc Santos scored two, with Jonathan Rudyk and David Delle Fave adding single tallies in the victory.

Down 2-0 early in the first, the Blues responded with seven unanswered goals to take a five-goal lead early in the second quarter. The Lakers responded and brought the game within one (7-6) and the two teams traded goals from there. The Blues were up 9-8 at halftime.

The third quarter proved to be the difference, as Toronto buried seven goals and held the Lakers scoreless. U of T notched two more to start the fourth, and despite a rallying attempt from Nipissing, came away with the 18-13 victory.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, October 24 when they host the McMaster Marauders at Varsity Centre. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
