FOOTBALL HEADS TO WATERLOO WITH PLAYOFF HOPES ON THE LINE

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team travels to Waterloo, Ont., this Saturday, October 17 to take on the Waterloo Warriors.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be streamed live on OUA.tv.

After a tough loss to the Western Mustangs last week, the Varsity Blues enter this weekend with playoff hopes on the line. Currently tied for seventh place in the OUA with a 2-4 record, U of T will be looking to win out the final two weeks of the regular season to leapfrog the Ottawa Gee-Gees and Laurier Golden Hawks for the final OUA playoff spot.

Meanwhile, the Waterloo Warriors remain on a mission to win their first game of the season sitting last in the OUA with an 0-6 record.

The rushing attack remains the primary driving force of the Varsity Blues offence, which currently ranks seventh in the entire country in rushing yards this season.

With the return of the team's 2014 leading rusher Lukas Gavac, who ranked fifth in the OUA with 677 rushing yards, more will undoubtedly be expected from Toronto's interior offence. Gavac returned last week against the Mustangs with a bang, totaling 105 all-purpose yards in his first game of the season.

Now about to face the worst rushing defence in the country in Waterloo, who allow over 250 rushing yards per game, Gavac will look to continue his strong return reminding the OUA of why he was invited to the 2014-15 CIS East West Bowl.

For the Warriors, quarterback Lucas McConnell has shined in his first season as the uncontested starter. Averaging 220 passing yards per game, McConnell and the Warriors aerial attack will need to have some success if Waterloo hopes to pull off the upset victory.

Following the crucial contest in Waterloo this weekend, the Varsity Blues will head to Ottawa to take on the Gee Gees in what could be a "win and you're in" game for both teams. Waterloo will head to Windsor for their final regular season game.
